Inspired by the the iconic film Forrest Gump, I designed postcards that read “What’s Your Destiny Today?” and “What’s Your Luck Today?” and left them around MICA’s campus and the surrounding area for folks to fill out. 108 cards were collected and cataloged. Out of the total cards, 20 were chosen as inspiration to generate new content – a book consisting of an infographic breaking down the gathered data, and design sprints utilizing the content from the cards.
The project serves as a way for people to understand where they lie on the spectrum between luck and destiny. Its goal was to help us better understand these two ideologies and what we interpret in our everyday lives as luck or destiny.
As an extension of the book, the project was also exhibited as part of the Post-Baccalaureate program’s student showcase. The exhibition displayed answers to the same luck and destiny questions, and encouraged viewers to participate by filling out their own cards and tacking them up on the wall. Throughout the entire process, almost 300 cards were collected.
